A nap, a meal and the world..

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

We have been told many times not to get affected by others. "Don't let him/ her/it get to you" is offered as a sympathetic statement meant to uplift our spirits. It is easier said than done because we are not isolated. We are wired to perform as partners. We partner with our family, workmates, neighbours, wider communities etc to navigate through life and in spite of everything, we do let people and things get to us. Negative experiences can drain us physically and mentally. When the going gets tough, we slow down and relinquish ourselves to the magic of a nap for we know that it is only the devil that does not take a nap! Sometimes we may need a little food to cheer us and strengthen us but we avoid excess.
We understand that we can regain control by examining our feelings. We know that the parent traits of all negativity are : 'ignorance', 'arrogance' and 'envy'. We strive hard to feed our minds with curiosity and awareness because the cure for ignorance is inquiry. We treasure knowledge and wisdom because it helps us understand the world around us and we do not feel the need to give in to unrealistic peer pressure. We are aware that in arrogance lies our downfall. We know the difference between having or desiring beautiful things and showing off. We know better than to mock or look down upon anyone in any way. We find it easier to accept the truth and realise our purpose. We steer clear of envy, for it burns our heart like fire burns the wood. Our goal is peace. We are content with our blessings and should our heart desire that which does not belong to us, we do not plot against taking from others but we pray and work hard to achieve our goals. We do not get affected because we set ourselves free..

"The essence of wisdom is emancipation, as far as possible, from the tyranny of the here and now". Bertrand Russell, "Knowledge and Wisdom",1954
