Mindfulness & Spirituality: A Blessing for all.

Updated: Nov 23, 2020

The list of days when nothing seems to go our way can seem never ending. A relationship of many years might fall apart; a loved one may pass away; our weight won't come off; our health might be at risk; we may have to give up our ambitions and goals or a pandemic may strike (it did!). Modern life, with its fast pace and conveniences can be very stressful. Sometimes we just feel like, 'this is it!!'
However, in spite of all ups and downs, we do understand that the need to maintain mindfulness, spirituality and a healthy attitude, is directly proportional to the chaos in our lives. Maybe we got into an unhealthy comfort zone and ignored the warnings but we do have it in us to resolve the situation by conditioning our responses. Things may not seem controllable but we are definitely in control of ourselves. We teach ourselves to take frequent breaks from our overwhelming thoughts, to become more "present" and "aware" of ourselves. We observe our feelings without judging them and strengthen our minds with long periods of silence and spiritual reflection. Our prayers and internal dialogues become more positive and focussed as we become increasingly aware of our "self's" capacity to distract us with meaningless whisperings. While mindfulness teaches us to focus and choose the thoughts we would like to engage in, our spirituality prevents our efforts from backfiring by helping us choose wisely.
Mindfulness and spirituality together disarm negative thought process. They make us realise the temporal nature of our problems. We judge a lot less and we accept a lot more. We propel ourselves into the future with renewed energy because we are at peace, successfully bidding farewell to things that did not work out and best of all? We know that there is more to life and "this is NOT it!!"
